Judas Priest continued to spread their sad wings of destiny on 1977’s Sin After Sin, the band’s staggering major label debut and third full-length overall. Epically post-apocalyptic opener “Sinner” fully crystallized the classic Priest sound, with Rob Halford’s mighty and melodic eagle screech soaring high above a mix of twinned guitar dramatics and moto-psycho fury. While the album also goes slightly disco-metal through an operatic, yet mirror ball-glittering cover of Joan Baez’s “Diamonds and Rust,” Sin After Sin must-hears like “Starbreaker” and “Raw Deal” harnessed a tough-as-leather aesthetic that defined the developing New Wave of British Heavy Metal.
